Tour Itinerary
Mombasa / Diani - Fort Jesus - Old Town - Haller Park - Tusks - Return
Your day begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel or residence in Mombasa or Diani, followed by a short drive to the historic Fort Jesus. This 16th-century Portuguese fort and UNESCO World Heritage Site offers a fascinating introduction to the region's history. Explore its museum galleries featuring Swahili and Portuguese artifacts, admire the coral-stone architecture, and enjoy panoramic views of the Indian Ocean from the ramparts, perfect for photography.
You will then proceed to Mombasa Old Town for a guided walking tour through its narrow, winding streets. Discover the rich blend of Swahili, Arab, and Portuguese influences reflected in the architecture, intricately carved wooden doors, spice markets, and local shops. You may also enjoy a short coffee break at a Swahili cafe and optionally visit the historic Mandhry Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in the city. Lunch will be at your own arrangement during this stop.
In the afternoon, head north to Haller Park, a unique nature sanctuary set on reclaimed quarry land. Here, you will enjoy a relaxed experience walking along shaded trails while observing giraffes (with an opportunity to feed them), giant tortoises, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of birdlife. The park offers a peaceful contrast to the busy city and is ideal for unwinding.
Later, make a brief stop at the iconic Mombasa Tusks (Pembe za Ndovu), located in the city center. This famous monument symbolizes Mombasa's history and serves as a perfect photo opportunity. A short souvenir stop may also be included nearby.
Thereafter, return to your hotel or residence in the late afternoon, marking the end of a well-rounded day exploring Mombasa's history, culture, and natural attractions.
